McALLEN -- The City of McAllen Recycling Center is asking residents to help city crews get back on schedule with brush collection. Crews are currently running one week behind schedule, due to an increase in dry brush created by this past winter's freeze.
"We are asking residents to be patient as we do our best to get back on schedule," said City of McAllen Renewable Resources Manager Chris Lash. "To help expedite collection, residents can help with proper placement of brush."
Brush Collection Do's and Don'ts
Do use paper bags instead of plastic bags for leaf collection because paper bags are compostable. Do make use of the recycling center on Nolana Avenue & Bentsen Road or the new composting center at 15201 N. 29th Street (Rooth Rd), between SH 107 and Monte Cristo Road to drop off brush. Do not place brush over a water meter or a gas meter. Do not mix broken toys, furniture or household garbage with brush. Do not mix bags of leaves with brush.
Brush improperly placed for collection will be yellow-tagged and not picked up.
