McALLEN – The third week of October is Texas Native Plant Week and we are celebrating with Mike Heep by spreading the word and selling native plants at Quinta Mazatlan, Thursday, Oct. 20, at 6:00 p.m.
The annual Texas Native Plant Week started in 2009 when Governor Perry signed a bill into law which intended to emphasize the role of native plants in conservation efforts. The bill passed unanimously in both HOUSES. Heep's Nursery will have plants at Quinta Mazatlan on Thursday evening for your convenience to support wildlife at YOUR HOUSE!
Our guest speaker, Mike Heep, studied Botany, Agriculture and Chemistry in college. He started a nursery business in 1978. Presently Heep's Nursery grows about 150 species native to South Texas. Mike has worked closely with Quinta Mazatlan in restoring the native habitat around OUR HOUSE! If you miss the presentation we hope that you will find a time to visit a nature center and nursery near you to learn more about native plants for YOUR HOME.
The McAllen Great Outdoor Nature Series takes place Thursday evenings through April 2012 and is proudly sponsored by Thurmond Eye Associates. The program fee is $2 per person and no advance reservation is required. Quinta Mazatlan, the McAllen Wing of the World Birding Center, is located at 600 Sunset in McAllen, one block south of La Plaza Mall on 10th Street.
