MISSION – Early voting for the Mission CISD Tax Ratification Election begins Wednesday, August 31 at Veterans Memorial High School and Alton Memorial Jr. High School. Polls will be open weekdays through September 13 from 9:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m.
Veterans Memorial High School is located at 700 E. Two Mile Rd. in Mission. Alton Memorial Jr. High School is located at 521 S. Los Ebanos in Alton.
The Mission CISD Board of Trustees made adjustments to the district's property tax rates; decreasing the Interest & Sinking rate by 13-cents and increasing the Maintenance & Operations rate by 13-cents. The combined tax rate paid by taxpayers remains unchanged at $1.30 per $100 of property valuation. State law requires the election since the Maintenance & Operations rat is now above a state cap of $1.04.
District officials say the tax adjustments will trigger additional state funding of over $7 million for the 2011-2012 fiscal year and over $7 million in the 2012-2013 fiscal year. Officials also say the district faces a reduction in revenues of about $8.1 million for the 2011-2012 school year and $3.3 million the following year if the tax adjustment is not approved by district voters.
A brochure with more information is available on the Mission CISD website, http://www.mcisd.net.
