E. Merilynn Gorman, 81, of Fort Madison, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, March 26, at the Great River Hospice House in West Burlington, Iowa.

She was born on August 16, 1927, in Blairsburg, Iowa, to Chalmer G.. and Ella Newcomer Bray and she was raised in Waukon, Iowa. She graduated from Iowa Methodist Hospital School of Nursing. As a Registered Nurse she worked at several hospitals in Iowa and Texas. On August 26, 1950, she married Fredrick W. Gorman Jr. in Waukon,

Iowa. He preceded her in death on October 8, 2007.

She was a member of Union Presbyterian Church, Eastern Star, Iowa Women’s International Bowling Congress, and Ladies of the Shrine. She was also inducted into the Iowa Bowling Hall of Fame. She was an avid Iowa Hawkeyes and Chicago Cubs fan. Merilynn also enjoyed music, dancing and traveling.

Survivors include one daughter, Kathy (Tom) Skewes of Ft.Madison, Iowa; two granddaughters, Kari E. (Scott) Packard of Arvada, Wyo. and Katie (Nick) Johnston of Bloomington, Ill.; two sisters, Barbara Hastings of Kingsville, Mo. and Ceclia “Bernie” Torgenrud of Santa Barbara, Calif.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one brother, George Bray and stepmother, Ruth Bray.

The Memorial Service will be held on Monday, March 30, at 1:30 p.m. at Union Presbyterian Church. The Reverend Mark Binder will officiate. Inurnment will be in Soldiers’ Circle, Oakland Cemetery. Per her wishes, the body has been cremated.
