Jose Rogelio Cantu, 80, entered eternal rest on Friday, Nov. 12, at Edinburg Regional Medical Center. He was born on June 15, 1930, in Donna to Carlos Cantu and Nellie Handy.
He is preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and four sisters.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Ofelia Lopez Cantu; son, Eddie (Mary) Cantu, Sr.; daughter, Elvia Navarro; grandchildren, Michael Navarro, Samantha Navarro, Jason Navarro, Eddie Cantu, Jr., and Erika Cantu; one brother, three sisters, two great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mr. Cantu served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. In addition, he also worked for Foremost Paving for 28 years. Mr. Cantu enjoyed being a handyman around his home. His greatest love was spending time with his family. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all those whose lives he touched.
The Cantu family received friends Sunday, Nov. 14, from 5 to 9 p.m. in the Chapel of Peace with a rosary prayed at 7 p.m at Ceballos-Diaz Funeral Home in Edinburg. Christian mass was held on Monday, Nov. 15, at 10 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church in Edinburg. Christian burial will follow to Hillcrest Memorial Park in Edinburg. Military services are under the auspices of VFW Post 8788 of McAllen. Funeral services have been entrusted to Ceballos-Diaz Funeral Home in Edinburg.
