Santiago “Jimmy” Perez, age 76, went to be with the Lord on Monday, Dec. 28, 2009 at Edinburg Regional Medical Center .

He was preceded in death by his parents, Federico Perez, Sr. and Herminia Garcia Perez; brothers, Florentino Perez, Fred Perez, Jr., Trinidad Perez; sister, Ofelia Perez Chapa and brothers-in-law, Feliciano Lopez and Amando Chapa, Sr. all of Edinburg.

Jimmy is survived by a brother, Rodolfo (Senaida) Perez of Sunnyside, Wash.; a sister, Olivia Perez Lopez; sisters-in-law, Ofelia Perez and Dora Perez of Edinburg and numerous nieces and nephews.

Jimmy was born in Edinburg and lived here all of his life. He was a graduate of Edinburg High School (1953) and Pan American University. Jimmy was a veteran having served in the U. S. Army from 1953-55. He went on to become an educator working for over thirty years teaching students his love of music. The majority of those years were served with the Edinburg CISD. His passion was playing the piano and organ which he did most of his life. Whether it was a school or private function his love of playing was always evident. Where there was a piano, you would find Jimmy.

Visitation was held Wednesday, Dec. 30, from 5 to 9 p.m. at Skinner Silva Funeral Home in Edinburg with a Holy Rosary. Funeral mass was celebrated at 10 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 31 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Edinburg. Interment followed at Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery in Edinburg .
