Spurgeon Hayden Wells Jr. passed away on June 6, 2010, at the River City Care Center in San Antonio, Texas. He had been a resident of Edinburg, Texas, for almost 40 years.

Born in Cleveland, Ohio, on July 15, 1924, he graduated from Lakewood High School in 1943. He enlisted in the Air Corps in 1943, and was honorably discharged in 1946.

He married Martha Waite in 1955, and a son Jeff, was born in 1956. He and Jeff re-located to the Valley in 1960, where he was employed, as equipment manager for the Edinburg Golden Jersey Creamery.

Mr. Wells was an avid reader, music record collector, rose gardener, and recipe collector.

Mr. Wells is survived by son, Jeffrey Brian of Edinburg; niece, Linda Dorsey of Columbus, Miss.; nephew, Art Woehrman of Rockville, Md., niece Rhoda Young of North Charleston, SC. and several great Śnephews and nieces.

Remains were interred on June 18 at Rio Grande State Veterans Cemetery, in Mission, where he received full military honors. A memorial service will be held at the First Baptist Church on 201 E. Samano in Edinburg, pending arrangements.
