Maria Genoveva Lopez, 92, entered eternal rest on Wednesday, April 15, 2009 at McAllen Nursing Center in McAllen. She was born on January 3, 1917 in Penitas to Veronico Garza and Feliciana Cantu.

Lopez is survived by her only son; Jose Baldemar (Aminta G.) Flores, Jr., sisters; Raquel Cavazos and Dora Rios, grandchildren; Norma Elisa Molina, Brenda Marie Gonzalez, and Laura Estella Stockton, great grandchildren; Andrea Mercedes Silva, Marie Annette Dunn, Josue David “J.D.” Molina, Sara Bianca Molina, Crystal Marie Idol, Joseph Phillip Gonzalez, Ryan Taylor Stockton, David Cole Stockton, Giana Marie Solis, and Paul Gerald Weaver, great-great grandchildren; Bryson Dunn and Auston Taylor Idol.

Maria is preceded in death by her parents, husband; Julio V. Lopez Jr., grandson, David Bray Flores, four brothers and two sisters. She worked at the Edinburg Daily Review in the printing shop. Along with her husband, she owned Julio’s Printing Shop in Edinburg from the mid-1950s through the late 1970s. For 21 years Maria also worked with Senior Community Outreach Services. She was also a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church Guadalupanas and crucillistas. She was very active in local politics. Her favorite hobby was traveling. Family and friends will miss her dearly.

The family would like to extend a special “thank you” to Dr. Alberto Gutierrez & staff as well as McAllen Nursing Center & staff. Having the honor of serving as pallbearers are Joseph Gonzalez, Ryan Stockton, Luz Gonzalez, Jose Luis Villarreal, Trenton J. Idol, and Ramiro Garcia. Honorary pallbearers are David Stockton and LCPL J.D. Molina.

A memorial service was held on Saturday, April 18, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Funeral services were entrusted to Ceballos-Diaz Funeral Home.
