PHARR – Getting closer to the start of operations in a lavish new building in downtown Pharr, the Food Bank of the Rio Grande Valley invited media on Wednesday morning to get a glimpse of the upcoming facility when it announced a $200,000 donation to the Bank's capital campaign from H-E-B Grocery.
PHARR - Studies show that one out of every four children in America is left unattended between 3 and 6 p.m. each school day. Thanks to the supportive partnership with JC Penney and Boys & Girls Clubs of America, more Pharr youth will now have the opportunity to attend the Boys and Girls Club of Pharr's after school program. The Boys and Girls Club of Pharr will receive a $7,500 access grant to provide parents with the opportunity to engage their children with caring, adult professionals in a safe place filled with life-enhancing programs.

She served as a teacher, counselor and principal at PSJA ISD for over 30 years, her last 13 years as principal of Garza-Peña Elementary before retiring in 2004. Three years later in 2007 at the age of 56, she passed away after a two-year battle with cancer.

ALAMO – Over 720 middle school students from PSJA's Audie Murphy Middle School will be receiving one more holiday present next week and it may be the best one yet. They are opening a brand new school.
CORPUS CHRISTI – Hector Garza Martinez, 44, of Alamo, has been sentenced to 145 months in federal prison without parole for possession with intent to distribute more than 5000 kilograms of marijuana, U.S. Attorney Kenneth Magidson announced today. The load was the largest single seizure of marijuana at the Falfurrias checkpoint in 2011 and the largest single marijuana seizure processed by the Corpus Christi Division of the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) in 2011.
