SAN JUAN Five local elementary schools, 4th and 5th grade students, competed for the chance to win the title of Grande Champion in the San Juan EDC's 4th annual Shop San Juan Sales Tax Drive. Students competed for a chance to win a Fun Day for their school by collecting receipts from local San Juan businesses and accumulating the most sales tax.

The students collected receipts in the month of May and winners were announced on the last week of school. Each school had a top fourth and fifth grade class; Sorenson Elementary won the Grand Champion trophy.

The following are the winning classes for each school that participated: Carmen Elementary: Ms. B. Martinez, fifth grade and Ms. J. Garcia, fourth grade; Doedyn Elementary: Ms. M Martinez, fifth grade and Ms. E Ramirez, fourth grade; North San Juan Elementary: Ms. Ochoa, fifth grade and Mr. Ochoa, fourth grade; Trevino Elementary: Ms. E Hernandez, fifth grade and Ms. Flores, fourth grade; Sorenson Elementary: Ms. Flores, fifth grade and Ms. Salinas, fourth grade.

All top fourth and fifth grade classes received a pizza party, a good bag, and a Shop San Juan Activity book filled with San Juan businesses' coupon. The school who won Grande Champion received a field day, which included water slides, moon jumps, and snow cones for all participating grade levels. Sorenson elementary holds the title and trophy as grand champion, until the next Shop San Juan sales tax drive.
