McALLEN – Nellie Ramirez Gomez passed away peacefully at her home in McAllen on December 3rd, 2011, at the age of 96.
She was born on September 5th, 1915, to Guillermo A. Ramirez and Nellie Thatcher. She attended school in Roma, Texas, and went away to study at A&I College in Kingsville, Texas, where she received her BA degree in education. She taught school in Starr County for six years, taught in Mission schools for six years, and continued her chosen profession, teaching in the McAllen school system for 26 years until her retirement in May of 1974.
She married her childhood sweetheart, Eusebio Gomez, on September 17, 1939, in Roma, Texas. They were happily married for more than 66 years and had one son, Richard H. Gomez. She was preceded in death by her husband, Eusebio, and her four brothers, Guillermo, Pablo, Raul, Oscar, and one sister, Eva Arce.
She is survived by her son, Richard H. Gomez (Diane), her three grandchildren, Richard H. Gomez, Jr., Susan I. Jackson (Christopher), and Jeffrey M. Gomez, and her three great grandchildren, Ryan R. Jackson, Tyler T. Jackson and Christopher C. Jackson.
Pallbearers will be her three grandsons Ricky, Jeff and Chris and nephews Raul Ramirez, Jr., Jackie Ramirez, and Edward Cardenas. Services will be under the direction of Kreidler Funeral Home in McAllen, Texas. Viewing will be held on Monday, December 5th from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. with a rosary at 7 p.m. Funeral mass to celebrate her life will be held at Sacred Heart
Church in McAllen, Texas, on Tuesday, December 6th at 10 a.m. Interment will follow at Valley Memorial Gardens on Taylor Road, McAllen, Texas.
