Funeral mass for Jose (Joe) Cordova, Sr. age 84 of Seminole, Texas, will be celebrated Thursday, August 18, 2011, at 10:00 a.m. at St. James Catholic Church in Seminole with Father Paul Karrieakatt officiating. Burial will follow in Andrews North Cemetery. All services are under the direction of Boyer Funeral Home of Seminole, Texas.
Mr. Cordova passed away Monday, August 15, at his home in Seminole. He was born December 26, 1926 in Mexico to Maria (Loera) and Juan Cordova. He married Lilia Rivera August 12, 1950 in Edinburg, Texas. He was very proud to become a citizen of the United States on August 31, 1995.
The Cordova's lived in Andrews for 20 years and had recently moved to Seminole. He was a member of Lady of Lourdes Church in Andrews, where he was usher and grounds keeper for the church. He was a member of Cursillistas and lived his Cursillio. He was a farmer and a very hard working man.
Mr. Cordova enjoyed all music and had a passion for dancing. He liked to hunt and travel with his family. He never knew a stranger and loved to talk to everyone. He also loved animals and always had them around.
Jose Cordova is preceded in death by his parents; one son, Joe Cordova Jr. in 2010; two brothers; one sister; one granddaughter, Ashley Renee Munoz in 1996; and two grandsons.
He is survived by: his Wife Lilia Cordova of Seminole, Texas; two sons, Art Cordova of Andrews, Texas and Johnny Cordova and wife Rosa of Claude, Texas; three daughters, Kookie Connally and husband Brooks of Seminole, Texas, Hilda Cordova of Clovis, New Mexico and Francis Scoggins and husband David of Andrews, Texas; one brother, Jesus Cordova of Monterrey, Mexico; two sisters, Alta Garcia Cordova of Monterrey, Mexico and Soccorro Segurra of Monterrey, Mexico and 14 Grandchildren and 27 Great Grandchildren.
