McALLEN – Joe Wayne Bledsoe (aka Coca-Cola Joe) has gone to that big Coke Plant in the sky.
Joe was born in Mercedes, Texas and remained a Valley boy his entire 80 years. He graduated from Edcouch-Elsa High School in 1950 and was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Edcouch. Joe worked for
Coca-Cola for 43 years and remained a staunch supporter of the company even after retirement. His children and grandchildren all knew that to drink any other brand of soft drink was a direct insult to him whether or not he was present.
Joe was a man of many passions, including football, fishing, bowling, NASCAR, football, Lois, Coca-Cola, BBQing sausage from Elgin, football, Lois, traveling in the Motorhome, working, Tom Moore whiskey (in an insulated glass), football, admiring the beauty of the fairer sex, telling dirty jokes to his grandchildren and of course, football.
He was preceded in death by his father, Earl, mother, Rachel, and brother, Jack. Left to tell "Joe Stories" and reminisce are his wife of 61 years, Lois, daughter Kay, sons, Jack (Merlene)and Linn (Susan), seven
grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Joe passed away at Comfort House with his life-long friend, Rev. Charles Barber at his side.
A celebration of Joe's life will be held Tuesday, November 22, 2011 at the Homestead Community Center (Chapel), 2701 N. McColl Rd. at 10 AM. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made in Joe's honor to Comfort House or Compassionate Care Hospice.
