Ricardo "Columpio" A. Rivas, 78, entered into eternal rest on Sunday, November 20, 2011 at Life Care Hospital-North in McAllen. He was born April 3, 1933 in Ciudad Victoria, Tamaulipas to Gabriel Rivas, Sr. and Soledad Aguilar Rivas.

Mr. Rivas worked for Hidalgo/ Willacy County Water Districts for over 18 years. He was an avid fisherman who enjoyed fishing at Port Mansfield, Texas. He was a hard worker who raised cattle, loved the outdoors and could fix anything. Mr. Rivas also loved to barbecue, but his specialty was guisado de puerco and chicharrones. He was very opinionated and loved to share jokes with his family. He was a very loving and loyal husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He was a member of St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church in San Carlos. He had a very strong faith and was devoted to helping the church. He will truly be missed by all of his family, friends and all those whose lived he touched.

Mr. Rivas is preceded in death by his parents, Federico and Lucinda Farias who raised him since he was a child, brother; Gabriel Rivas, Jr., sister; Gloria Nunez, and son-in-law; Jesus Zarate, Sr.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years; Eufemia M. Rivas, sons; Ricardo (Celia) Rivas, Jr., Raul (Raquel) Rivas, Sr., Rene (Betty) Rivas, Roy (Norma) Rivas, daughters; Rosalinda (Genaro) Pina, Janie (Jose) Pequeno and Sylvia Zarate. 22 - grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

The Rivas family received friends Tuesday, November 22, 2011 from 3:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. with a rosary prayed at 7:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Peace at Ceballos-Diaz Funeral Home in Edinburg. A Christian Mass was held Wednesday, November 23, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church in San Carlos, Texas. Christian Burial followed to Val-Verde Memorial Gardens in Donna. Funeral services were entrusted to Ceballos-Diaz Funeral Home in Edinburg.
