Three IDEA Public Schools were named to the Texas Business and Education Coalition (TBEC) Honor Roll for 2011. They are IDEA College Prep Donna, IDEA Frontier College Prep in Brownsville, and IDEA College Prep San Benito. This is the second consecutive year IDEA Frontier College Prep earns this distinction.

This award is given to less than 4 percent of the 8,000 public schools in Texas. The TBEC Honor Roll recognizes schools that have demonstrated three years of consistently high performance in all subjects when compared with other schools serving similar student populations.

TBEC Honor Roll schools have the highest percentage of students performing at the "commended" level in every subject. In this, the last year of TAKS testing, TEA rating standards are the most demanding yet.

"Our students, teachers and staff are proving it is possible for our students to compete at the highest levels," said Tom Torkelson, Founder and CEO of IDEA Public Schools. "We are preparing our students from the day they step foot on our campuses for rigorous study at the best four-year colleges and universities. Students at IDEA Public Schools are developing the knowledge, the skills, and the work ethic to compete in an ever-competitive world."

IDEA Public Schools received an "Exemplary" school system rating for the 2010-2011 school year, the highest accountability score given to school districts by the Texas Education Agency (TEA). Both IDEA College Prep Donna and IDEA Frontier College Prep also achieved an Exemplary rating.

The Texas Business & Education Coalition will recognize all the Honor Roll Schools on Friday, December 2, 2011, at an Awards Reception and Dinner in Dallas, Texas, sponsored by HEB.
