CALALLEN — Alice junior Criselda Cruz broke an old school record Friday afternoon.

Competing in the Wildcat Relays in Calallen, Cruz broke the Alice High School track and field program’s triple jump record when she jumped 37-5. She also won the event with that leap.

Alice’s old record of 36-9 was set by Gina Slayton in 1984 and stood some 33 years.

Cruz had a standout year in the event a year ago. She won the event at the District 30-5A meet and then won the area meet, featuring the top athletes from 29-5A and 30-5A to advance to the Region IV-5A track and field meet in San Antonio.

Cruz won the triple jump at the area meet with a leap of 35-2.
