CORPUS CHRISTI — The Alice Coyotes scored early and then held on for a crucial 30-5A North Zone victory Friday night at Whataburger Field.

The Coyotes scored three first-inning runs and then fought off the Tuloso-Midway Warriors the rest of the way for a 4-2 victory.

With the win, Alice improved to 3-2 in zone play. They remain a game behind first-place Ray and Calallen, which are north 4-1.

Because of testing during the week, the Coyotes’ next outing is at home Friday against Corpus Christi Ray. Game time is 7 p.m.

The Coyotes scored in the first inning off a triple by R.J. Galvan which brought around Kevin Hill. Pena later scored on a hard-hit ball by Carlos Pena and a T-M error. Trey Jaramillo drove in the Coyotes’ third run of the inning.

Garcia had an RBI double in the seventh to put Alice ahead, 4-2.

Pena earned the win. He went seven innings and allowed two runs on seven hits and a walk. He struck out five.

The Warriors dropped to 1-4 in zone play.
