The cross country season is under way, and the local teams are preparing for city meets the next two weekends.

Last weekend the EHS girls placed second at the Dogpound Invitational in San Benito, behind Los Fresnos. Elizabeth Galloso was the top Lady Bobcat finisher, in fifth, followed by Evelyn Aranda in seventh and Yvonne Zerda at No. 11. Laura Mendoza, Katia Romero, and Audrie Vela also made the top 20.

At the Zapata meet, the EHS boys were fourth with North a spot behind. Vets Jeremy Castaneda (fifth) and Omar Trujillo (No. 17) were the leaders as usual for the Bobcats, while Adrian Coronado (ninth) paced the Coog runners.

EHS will host a run Aug. 28 while North’s event will be Sept. 4.
