The Edinburg Landsharks are off to a solid start in 2010, with a 4-1 record after a 33-6 win over the Brownsville Outlaws last weekend.

The Sharks had started 3-0 but ran into a tough San Antonio Warriors bunch and dropped one, 33-7, two weeks back. But the gang rebounded to win Saturday and now faces a home game against the San Antonio Mavericks Saturday.

The cast of characters remains largely the same for the traditionally excellent semi-pro squad, including quarterback Renato Nunez and his band of awesome receivers led by Kalani Jaime, Shedric Dallas, and Bryon Gonzalez.

The defense can still count on North exes Frank Fuentes and Joe Miranda, while Econ alum Jaime Hinojosa anchors the defensive line. New to the mix in 2010 is former Cougar great Chris “Astro” Garza, who has added a hard-hitting presence to the unit on D.

The team started its latest campaign with a 26-9 win over Brownsville and then beat the Mavs 27-6 before running up 83 points versus the RGV Bandits; that 83-23 count set a league record for combined points.
