The Lady Broncs prepare for a busy 2009-2010 campaign as the University of Texas-Pan American Women’s Basketball program announced the schedule for the upcoming season. All home games will take place at the UTPA Field House.
“The schedule is extremely tough, we have 16 road games and we have 12 home games, so I think it kind of puts us behind the eight ball,” said head coach Denny Downing. “We are playing three big-twelve teams on the road; Baylor is probably going to be top 10 in the country, Oklahoma State and Missouri.”
The adventure begins for the Lady Broncs Nov. 13, when they travel to Tulsa, OK. to face Oral Roberts University five days before visiting Houston to play against Texas Southern.
Long Beach State visits UTPA in the home-season opener Nov. 25. Then, UTPA goes to Denton, Texas for a game with North Texas Nov. 28, followed by the Longwood Tournament that will take place Nov. 28-19 in Farmville, Va.
The Lady Broncs return home for a match against Arkansas Pine Bluff Dec. 1, travel to Houston for the Rice tournament Dec. 4-5, and encounter Missouri at Columbia, Mo. Dec. 10.
Two days later, St. Edwards comes to the Valley to oppose UTPA. After a week of rest, the program receives TAMUCC in the UTPA field house.
The team goes on trip to Waco, followed by Stillwater OK. in order to play Waco and Oklahoma State on Dec. 30 and Jan. 2 respectively, returns home to welcome Letourneau Jan. 4, and travel to Corpus Christi two days later before staying home for two weeks.
On Jan. 14, the program receives NJIT and Chicago State visits on Jan.16.
The University of South Dakota will play at UTPA Jan.28 while North Dakota State follows after two days.
Utah Valley welcomes UTPA Feb. 4 in Orem, UT, after Chicago State does the same in Chicago, Ill. on Feb. 6. The Lady Broncs make a stop in Houston for a game against Houston Baptist Feb. 11, and on their way back home after hosting an encounter with Utah Valley at UTPA Feb. 15.
The program goes up north to face NJIT in Newark NJ. Feb 18 before their last home game of the term against Houston Baptist Feb. 27.
In the last stretch of the season, the Lady Broncs face South and North Dakota March 4 and 6 in Vermillion and Grand Forks respectively, and finalize the period March 12-13 in Orem, Utah at the Great West Championship.
