The Bobcats dropped another close one Friday, yielding a 14-0 lead in the third quarter to lose to visiting Sharyland, 19-14.

Edinburg (0-2) outgained the Rattlers (2-0) 307 to 246 but committed four turnovers to one for Shary. Three of the miscues came in succession to start the second half, when the Rattlers turned a 14-6 deficit into a 19-14 lead that stood up. A late Edinburg drive ended at the enemy 45 inside the final minute.

Edinburg, which lost to McAllen High 17-14 on a last-minute touchdown bomb to start the season, played well against a tough foe, but must now look to Friday’s road game at Weslaco (1-1) to get off the ziggy.

Senior Jaime Sauceda and soph Deandric Maxwell combined for 159 yards rushing in replacing injured starter Rolando Palacios, while senior linebacker David Guevara had an outstanding game with 14 tackles.
