Before the Jags played, they watched the EHS Bobcats pound Idea Academy, 75-39, with two ex-Econ players in the mix, Steve Alvarado and Cruz Gaitan. EHS advanced to the tourney final before losing to a tall and quick Victoria Memorial team by 14. Aaron Olvera (17 points) and Stevie Guerrero (16) made the All-Tournament team for Edinburg, which defeated San Benito to make it to the final game.

The Jags ended up winning the consolation prize with a 9-point win over city rival North.

In the Border Bash girls’s tourney over in McAllen, Edinburg North made a good showing, losing just once to clinch a consolation title. The Lady Coogs got wins over Laredo United, Laredo Nixon and Brownsville Lopez after the opening loss to Cedar Park, which eventually lost in the semi-finals to Hidalgo.

Senior Brandy Garcia of North got some good news this weekend, as she was picked for the All-Valley Volleyball team, making the second unit.
