Having paced the local field for much of the early cross-country season, the North Cougars went north to try their luck in San Antonio. The result was a second-place finish at the Ricardo Romo Six Flags/Fiesta Texas Classic, behind Boerne Champion.
Luis Serrano finished fourth individually, with a time of 15:36.9, while teammate Joe Morales was 18th. The Hanna boys were fifth at the meet, held at UTSA.
For the girls, North’s Jenyse Vazquez came home in 14th place, while the team failed to break the top 20. P-SJ-A Memorial, the Lady Coogs’ league rival, was 5th, with Sharyland 4th.
The next run is in Brownsville Saturday, followed by La Joya in two weeks and the Meet of Champs Oct. 10. District races will be held Oct. 24 in Alamo.
