The football awards kept on coming for EHS last week as linebacker Ciro Reyna was picked as the All-Valley Defensive Player of the Year by Freedom Newspapers.

The senior star made 112 tackles for the best defense in District 31-5A this year, and was named to the All-Valley second team along with earning a first-team nod on the Review’s All-City Team.

A three-year starter for the Bobcats, the rugged Reyna was a sure tackler with great closing speed, and overcame an ankle injury early in the 2010 season to lead the ‘Cats to the third round of the playoffs for the first time since 2000.

Known for his submarine style of bringing down enemy ball-carriers, the 195-pounder was a dominant force for three seasons under Coach Joey Caceres.

Three other Bobcats made the All-Valley squad, defensive tackle Michael Padilla on first team with guard Joey Galvan and defensive back Sal Martinez on second.

From the world of volleyball, four North girls were named to the Texas Girls’ Coaches Association Academic All-State team, for maintaining at least a 94 grade-point average through four years of high school.

Lady Coogs Christy Brandt, Megan Cruz, Cynthia Granado, and Dacia Salinas were accorded the honor last week.
