Faced with a testy bi-district opponent, the Lady Coogs nearly pulled off the upset before losing to Brownsville Porter 4-3 Tuesday.

North (22-7) forged a 3-1 lead into the seventh on the road behind Iliana Hinojosa, who allowed just two hits through six. But the Cowgirls (27-3) battled for three runs in their last at-bat to thwart a fine effort from the underdog.

Down 1-0 in the sixth, North got a sacrifice fly from Hinojosa and a run-scoring single from sophomore catcher Victoria Cardenas to take the lead. It stretched that to 3-1 in the next frame after Cynthia Granado plated Anysa Avila.

But Porter, 32-5A champ, strung together three hits to come from behind and advance to the area round.
