EDINBURG – The Edinburg Roadrunners snapped their six-game losing streak behind a complete game victory by Aaron Guerra to beat the McAllen Thunder 10-1 Monday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium.
Guerra (2-1) allowed one run while scattering 10 hits and striking out nine for his second win of the season.
The Roadrunners (4-9) got the scoring started in the bottom of the first when Osiel Flores hit a two-out RBI single to right field that allowed Brandon Wilkerson to score giving them the 1-0 lead.
R.J. Harris was hit by a pitch in the bottom of the second and then stole second base. Nick Aranda followed with an RBI single to right field scoring Harris from second. After Michael Lewis walked and stole second, Wilkerson then hit a two-run single that allowed Aranda and Lewis to score extending Edinburg's lead 4-0.
In the bottom of the fifth, RBI singles by Stantrel Smith and Harris pushed the Roadrunner lead to 6-0.
Edinburg added four more runs in the bottom of the eighth after sending 10 batters to plate. The inning was highlighted by a two-run double by Smith that helped extend the Roadrunner lead to 10-0.
Guerra allowed one run in the top of the ninth after Eric Eiland hit an RBI single to right field that allowed Yaibel Tamayo to score from second that made it 10-1. Guerra go the final two outs of the game giving Edinburg the 10-1 victory and snapping their six-game losing streak.
The Roadrunners and Thunder will play the second game of their four-game series Tuesday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium. Jorge Quintero (0-2) is expected to start for Edinburg with the first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
