Special to The Review

Aaron Enriques, a sixth grade student at Barrientes Middle School and member of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Edinburg RGV El Tule Club 2020 Unit, has taken the first step to becoming an internationally recognized artist by winning a local competition sponsored by the Edinburg Lions Club and hosted by the Boys & Girls Clubs of Edinburg RGV.

Members worked on drawings during the month of October and submitted their final entry on Nov. 12. Judging took place on Nov. 13 at the RGV El Tule Club 2020 Unit.

In attendance were some of the members who had entries, BGC board members and Lions Club board members.

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Edinburg RGV hosted the Peace Poster Contest to emphasize the importance of world peace to young people everywhere.

“Peace Begins with Me” art contest‘s theme was peace and was open to members ages 11- 13. Members were to come up with a drawing that depicted peace without the use of any type of labeling or writing to help get the message across.

Criteria for contest were originality, artistic talent and theme relationship. Eleven members from both the El Tule Club 2020 Unit and the San Carlos Unit participated in the contest.

Enriques’ poster will advance to multiple district and international rounds of competition if he is to be declared the international grand prize winner.

Special thanks goes to Ella dela Rosa, Judge Dan Rios (BGC Board Members) and Juan Lopez (Lions Club Secretary) for attending our event and for serving as judges.
