UTPA, University Theatre Productions will perform its final Mainstage production of its 2008-2009 theatre season. Plaza Suite, a classic American comedy by Neil Simon, will run April 22 through 25 at 8 p.m. and April 26 at 2 p.m. at the Albert L. Jeffers theatre in the Communication Arts & Science building on the corner of University Drive and Sugar Road.
Act I follows Karen and Sam Nash, a couple celebrating their 24th wedding anniversary…or is it their 23rd? Karen books them into their old honeymoon suite, room 719, and all is well…or is it? Sam, increasingly distant since his 50th birthday, has some news that may change everything.
Act II gives us Jesse Kiplinger, a famous Hollywood producer, who tries to rekindle an old flame with his childhood sweetheart Muriel Tate. Muriel is an unhappy married woman who is dissatisfied with her life and she views her old flame as a chance to escape. Could some “afternoon delight” change their lives, if even for just one day?
Act III celebrates the beginning…of a nervous breakdown. Two hysterical parents, Norma and Roy Hubley, need their daughter out walking the aisle instead of locked inside a bathroom. After spending a fortune on their daughter’s wedding, Roy and Norma try everything they can to get their nervous daughter to come out of the bathroom and get married. Watch the lengths these two will go through to get the wedding started!
Reserved seats are $12, general admission are $8. Non UTPA faculty and students are $3, while UTPA faculty/students/staff get two free admissions with each valid UTPA ID. No children below the third grade will be admitted.
