Boys and girls, brothers and sisters, moms and dads make sure to mark your calendar for the jamboree of events that the Children’s Department at Speer Memorial Library is planning for your fun and entertainment and let us not forget the food, goodies and prizes. Sparing no expense to bring together this huge array of entertainment for your enjoyment.

As part of their month-long jamborees of events in the children’s department at Speer Memorial Library in Mission, Bentsen State Park with present their community out reach program in educating the children on wildlife on Tuesday, May 19, at 4:30 p.m.

Employees from the park will visit the library and read a story about nature, its elements and creatures. An added feature to their presentation may include live creatures like a preying mantes, rats, snakes, horn beetles, bats spiders or the fur or skin of a wild animal found in nature. Come have a seat and discover the wonders of nature.

The fun continues with an opportunity to compete in the Teen Guitar Hero Tournament on Thursday, May 21, at 6 p.m. Come and participate or just witness the battle of the guitars. Entries should be between the ages of thirteen and eighteen years of age with the highest score declared the winner.

And finally, it’s Kid’s Dino Night on Thursday, May 28, at 6 p.m., which allows patrons to pick-a-dinosaur book and watch “Land Before Time: Journey To Big Water”. Children will have an opportunity to choose from one of the countless dinosaur books within the collection and will then be given time to read the book followed by a question and answer segment on the particular books chosen. When all is read and said then the entertainment begins with the viewing of the movie “Land Before Time”.
