Four outstanding seniors from McAllen high schools received Good Citizen Awards at the March 4 meeting of the Rio Grande Chapter of the Daughter of the American Revolution.
Winner of a $500 scholarship given by the Rio Grande Chapter was Valeria Deyanira McDonald, McAllen High School. She is the daughter of Martin and Lesly McDonald.
From Nikki Rowe High School was Lizeth Gomez, the daughter of Jose del Re Gomez. Zoad Livette Ali was the Good Citizen from Lamar Academy and the daughter of Josefina and Abraham Ali. From McAllen Memorial High School was Leah Michelle Sanchez, the daughter of Jose Sanchez and Helene M. Picard.
The four recipients were chosen by their schools based on the qualities of dependability, service, leadership, and patriotism to an outstanding degree. A panel of judges then chooses the scholarship winner.
The program is open to all senior class students enrolled in accredited public or private secondary schools who are in good standing with their state board of education.

The presentation took place at the Rio Grande Chapterís monthly meeting and luncheon at the McAllen Country Club. Also present at the luncheon were the counselors from each school: Isela Herrera, McAllen Memorial; Robert Garcia, Lamar Academy; Maryiel Garcia, Nikki Rowe; and Leticia M. Hernandez, McAllen High School.
