All dressed up in your favorite Halloween costume with nowhere to go?
Donít fret! Because itís that hallow time of the year once again when Speer Memorial Library welcomes contestants to participate in the 5th Annual Halloween Costume Contest. Ghosts, friendly monsters, witches, globins, and creatures of the night will all be judged based on the Most Original and the Most Appealing Costume entry. The entries will be awarded in three categories: Toddler, Pre-K - Kinder, 1st - 4th graders, and 5th - 8th grade friendly monsters.
The judges for the evening will be Maxilou Link, President, Upper Valley Art League, Jennifer Venecia, P.R. Director, Chick-fil-A and Lisa Debruyn, library volunteer. The judges will be impartial regardless of the number of trick or treats.
The costume contest will be held in the Childrenís Department on Oct. 29 at 6:30 p.m., participants are encouraged to pre-register before the event for additional entry guidelines. A prerequisite for each entry is no grotesque or inappropriate costumes allowed. Registrations are ongoing in the department and may be received up to 5:30 p.m. on the day of the contest.
Parents are encouraged to bring their cameras for an opportunity to capture their little spirit amongst the boo-spectacular Halloween backdrops located in the childrenís department. Lisa Rivera, Childrenís Librarian, would like to highly commend the staff for their all out effort in decorating the department so elaborately for Halloween this year. So donít be left out and make a BOO-line to Speer Memorial Library on October 29.
Speer Memorial Library is located at 12th and Kika De La Garza Loop in Mission. The library is open (except for Holidays) Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., Friday and Saturday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and from noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday.
