The McAllen Chamber of Commerce and Cine El Rey bring you South of the City Limits, featuring some of the best bands in the music industry.
This month features the music of Liz Morphis, from Austin on Friday, Feb. 13 at Cine El Rey in downtown McAllen. Admission is $15; doors open at 8 p.m. and the show starts at 9. Morphis sings Jazz, Blues, R&B, Rock & Roll, especially Glam Rock, and a little Loretta Lynn. Liz was born in Northeast Louisiana, and moved to East Texas in Junior High School. She describes her voice as a middle-type alto with evidence of Blues influence. She is a sultry and soulful on standards like “Is You Is, Or Is You Ain’t,” and “Gee Baby, Ain’t I Good to You,” and playful and funny on tunes like “Dinah” and “Straighten Up and Fly Right.”
They perform Jazz standards, old favorites, R&B hits, and more. Her repertoire is growing rapidly.
