Need a break from the hustle and bustle of holiday shopping? Gather up the family for a relaxing, fun afternoon at the Museum of South Texas History on Sunday, Dec. 13, from 1 to 5 p.m., for a South Texas Holiday.

Angelic music from the Edinburg First Methodist Church Bell Choir will set the mood. Accomplished musicians will perform 2 to 3 p.m. in the Courtyard Gallery. “We look forward to having the Bell Choir join us to ring in the holiday season.” said Melissa Tijerina, MOSTH programming officer. “Their beautiful music always makes the holidays special.”

Listen for the musical styling of Quartetto Zyriab, a classical guitar quartette. Dr. Kurt Martinez, Gilbert Taunton, Jaime Garcia and Jesus Garza have selected holiday songs to perform for the event.

Bring the kids for a unique photo opportunity with Santa and Mrs. Claus. The Claus’ will be in the Will Looney Legacy Park by the windmill, weather permitting. A wagon and saddles along with native landscaping will set the South Texas scene. Please bring your own camera.

What would the holidays be without food? Traditional South Texas holiday treats like tamales, hot chocolate, roscas de los tres reyes and other sweets will be available to enjoy at the museum or to take home.

And for that last minute shopping, browse through the Museum Store for stocking stuffers and unique gifts items. Do you have someone on your list who seems to have everything? How about a FRIENDship to the Museum? It is a gift that can be enjoyed all year long.

The U.S. Marines will be on hand for their Toys for Tots drive held at the museum. Put a smile on the face of a young boy or girl in your community by bringing an unused, unwrapped toy for the drive. FRIENDS of the Museum are always extended free admission. For further information, call 956-383-6911 or visit the website at
