The Sekula Memorial Library in cooperation with UT-PA Press will host a brown bag luncheon featuring author Alejandro Fedorenko who will speak on his book, In the Shadow of Lázaro Cárdenas.
Fedorenko is a Russian author, born in Mexico in 1929, the son of refugees from the Bolshevik Revolution. He was raised in the home of Lázaro Cárdenas, the President of Mexico who was known in the U.S. as "the number-one Communist in Latin America."
The author was a pilot in the Mexican Air Force. During the Bay of Pigs Invasion in Cuba in 1961, Alejandro Fedorenko counseled the Russians who wanted to launch nuclear missiles against the U.S.
The brown bag luncheon will be April 21 at noon at the Dustin Michael Sekula Memorial Library located at 1906 S. Closner Blvd. in Edinburg.
