Austin, TX (5/10/11) The Career and Technology Association of Texas (CTAT) recently awarded Zachary Ruiz the Myra Hasty and Dr. Pat McLeod Scholarship for excellence in career and technical education.

Mr. Ruiz was one of ten recipients from over 100 applicants who demonstrated the desired qualities of leadership, citizenship and achievement in career and technical education (CTE). Zachary will graduate from the South Texas Business Education and Technology Academy in Edinburg, TX, this summer. He has served as a Technology Student Association (TSA) Chapter President and Secretary, competed in regional, state and national TSA competitions, and was awarded! the Lone Star and Texan Leadership awards from TSA. Mr. Ruiz is an Adobe Certified Associate (ACA) in Rich Media Communication, Visual Communication and Web Communication. He has also earned Internet Business Associate, Site Development Associate, Network Technology Associate and Web Design Specialist Associate certifications. He is on track to complete over 15 industry-recognized certifications upon high school graduation.

Mr. Ruiz plans to attend the University of Texas at Austin in the fall and major in computer science and political studies. He credits career and technology education for his preparedness and academic excellence: ?CTE classes have offered me the ability to learn new skills that will leave me better prepared than many of my peers. The certifications I have earned and the rigor of CTE courses has prepared me to handle college course loads and will help me achieve my goals. Zachary is the son of Enrique and Laurie Ruiz.
