Jump “Into the Wetlands” with the Edinburg Scenic Wetlands and World Birding Center as we celebrate the 6th year of our center!
From family-friendly fun to an adult soiree, we will showcase all things fabulous about the “Wetlands” and highlight some of the special programs and activities offered throughout the year. The event will be held on the grounds of the Edinburg Scenic Wetlands on Saturday, March 28, starting at 8 a.m.
Interested in a morning walk? As part of the celebration, we will offer free entry to the center from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Free entry includes use of our binoculars and access to our buildings and grounds. If you have not had a chance to visit our center, this is a fantastic opportunity to view the breathtaking wildlife that inhabit our grounds. From birds in their outlandish feathers to the sparkle of jewel-toned dragonflies, Spring is a wonderful time to observe the splendor of nature.
Starting at 10, we will host a four hour “Family Festival” as part of our anniversary event. From guided nature walks and wetland explorations to arts and crafts, food, and more, children and their families will have a chance to “plunge” into wetland fun! Some of the activities include “dip-netting,” dragonfly crafts, balloon making, face painting, wetland races, and more. The event is free, but donations are gladly accepted!
Towards sunset, adult members, supporters and sponsors are invited for an intimate evening of music, hors d’oeuvre, and a silent auction. “Evening at the Wetlands” will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Center. Proceeds from the auction will support our environmental education programs such as “Leadership in Nature”, “Summer Science Camps”, the “5th Grade Wetlands Program” and the “RGV Coastal Expo.” Auction items include: A “Day of Birding” with well-known Rio Grande Valley Bird Guide, Roy J. Rodriguez; paintings by Valley artist: Rachel Hinojosa, Anna Maria Salinas, and Mary Beth Stowe; free lessons and classes by Roots Skate-Shop, Hinovations Art Studio, and more.
