The Juvenile Court Conference Committee Volunteer Program, a unit of the Judge Mario E. Ramirez, Jr. Juvenile Justice Center is recruiting adult community volunteers to work with first time juvenile offenders and their families.

If you are interested in helping an at-risk youth by listening to them and their parents and offer options to improve their behavior a volunteer training session will be held at on Saturday, March 14 from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the JCCC Conference Room, 1001 North Doolittle Road in Edinburg. Volunteers should:

Be at least 18 years old.

Submit an application and agree to a criminal history background check.

Submit two reference letters and attend an eight-hour training.

Volunteers must sign the volunteer agreement and code of ethics, be re-certified every two years, be sworn into confidentiality by a District Judge, and volunteer by participating in conferences in the evening (10 to 15 hours a month).

The process requires an initial face-to-face interview with staff and volunteers, submission of a finger print card, and agree to local law enforcement sex offender registration check with the city and the county.
