The City of Edinburg announces the return of FridaFest at the Edinburg City Hall Courtyard. Fridafest 2016, a two-day event, will kick off on Friday, July 8, with a “Bohemian Night Inspired by Frida.” The evening will begin with an indoors limited seat program at the Edinburg Municipal Auditorium. The doors will open at 6:00 p.m. and the program starts at 7:00 p.m.

The performance will feature Arte Viviente– a live replica of “Las Dos Fridas,” a presentation on the Life and Legacy of Frida by her grandniece Cristina Kahlo. The program will be followed by a Q&A session, a tribute dance performance, thematic live music, and live poetry & monologue readings. There is no charge for this special event however you will need a ticket to attend as seating is limited to 700 attendees. Tickets are available via and will be distributed on a first come first served basis.

FridaFest will continue on Saturday, July 9, with the festival portion of the celebration beginning at 4 p.m. at the City Hall Courtyard. Attendees will enjoy browsing through and purchasing Frida themed merchandise including crafts, art and lots of food. The festival will also include, a Frida Kahlo inspired Art Exhibition, tribute dance performances, live replicas of Frida’s paintings and the popular Frida look-a-like contest with a children and adult division.

Cristina Kahlo will present an encore presentation of the Life and Legacy of Frida for those who miss it on Friday. Local bands TR3N and the Dirty Birdies will provide live music throughout the day and people can also enjoy a theatrical performance inside the historic Edinburg Municipal Auditorium.

FridaFest is an annual event hosted by the City of Edinburg in celebration of the Life of renowned Mexican Artist, Frida Kahlo. Kahlo began painting in the late 1920s and is known as one of Mexico’s greatest artists. She was known to be politically active before marrying fellow artist Diego Rivera in 1929. She is best known for her daring self-portraits depicting the suffering she experienced and is revered as a feminist icon.
