On June 19, in College Station, Texas, the McAllen United Angels 14-year olds won the 2016 US Youth Soccer Presidents Cup U.S. Region 3 Championship after winning the State Championship. The Angels defeated North Texas Mutiny FC Black (from the Dallas area) in the final championship game, winning 3-2. The North Texas Mutiny were 8-0 leading up to the regionals’ championship game and allowed opponents to score only one point against them. The Angels scored three points.

This achievement has advanced the McAllen United Angels to the 2016 Presidents Cup National Championship Final Four Tournament in Tulsa, Oklahoma, July 14-17. The tournament will be televised nationally. They will play against the best 14-year old team from Pennsylvania, California and Illinois in a four-day tournament; and if victorious, the Angels will be crowned the best in the United States.

At the US Regionals, the Angels competed against the best 14-year old soccer teams from throughout Texas and 11 southeastern state associations. The Angels defeated Louisiana, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Tennessee and North Texas. The last two Presidents Cup tournaments (state and regional championships) were won by five shutouts with a perfect 9-0 record. The Angels have been undefeated since February in the Presidents Cup series.

The US Youth Soccer Presidents Cup is much like the World Cup to over 11,000 boys and girls (age groups 13-17). Coaches and teams compete for six months from 55 state associations throughout the U.S. Each region, 1, 2, 3 and 4, have thousands of teams competing up to the state finals. Over 110 teams from each of the four US regions advance to four U.S. regional President Cup tournaments about the same week, and one boys and girls team from each age group advance to the Final Four and compete for the US Presidents Cup title in Tulsa. The McAllen Angels is one of these four teams.

This is an historical once-in-a-lifetime achievement for the McAllen United Angels and the Rio Grande Valley. The team is proud to be representing McAllen, the Rio Grande Valley, Texas and U.S. Region 3.

“Coming to the Presidents Cup Finals we knew about the high quality and high caliber level of the teams we were going to face,” Head coach Abraham Adriano said. “It’s been an enjoyable and rewarding experience for our girls to play against some very tough competition. We are ready for the final four and the chance to win the Cup.”

The McAllen United Angels have won nine (9) championship titles. They are a competitive U14 girls’ club soccer team. They compete year round against top-level private clubs from the RGV, Texas, and now the United States. Many of them have been playing together since the first grade and are advancing to McAllen-area high school soccer teams.
