HIDALGO - In front of a standing room crowd, County Judge Ramon Garcia was honored as the 2016-2017 Hombre del Año (Man of the Year) by the City of Hidalgo and the Casa de Arte Foundation.
Judge Garcia was selected for the award by a committee that included Hidalgo Mayor Cepeda, Tax Assessor-Collector Paul Villarreal Jr., last year’s Hombre del Año, and several other esteemed individuals. Arturo Garcia Martinez, the head of the Casa de Arte Foundation, noted the judge’s leadership, sincerity in directing the county and his social conscience set him apart from the pool of over 50 possible honorees.
“We applauded the judge for his humanitarian spirit and his brilliant career at delivering justice,” said Martinez.
Along with the County Judge, 11 other members of the community were honored for their philanthropic accomplishments. The judge was presented the Hombre del Año award by Mayor Cepeda.
“Judge Garcia has done a lot for our city and his continued support in promoting economic growth in our area has helped us build towards the future,” said Cepeda.
The judge graciously thanked the Hidalgo City Officials, the Casa de Arte Foundation and the committee for their generous honor. He acknowledged the regional support between the county, the city and our partners in Mexico as the backbone for future growth and productivity.
“We live in a precious county. We may be only the seventh largest county in Texas but that is because they don’t know that the border isn’t our border,” said Garcia. “Nothing separates us because we are all family here.”
