PHARR – More than 30 Pharr-San Juan-Alamo ISD (PSJA) high school students recently had the opportunity of a lifetime by visiting some of our nation’s top universities free of cost. As part of the PSJA & Texas Graduate Center Summer Ivy League University Tours 2017, students got to visit seven universities including Harvard University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Brown University and Stanford University.

The purpose of the tours is to expose Valley students to universities they would have otherwise overlooked when considering institutions for their post-secondary education.

In addition to visiting the universities previously mentioned, students also toured the University of California,Davis; University of California, Berkeley; and the Washington University St. Louis Missouri School of Medicine.

To be selected for the tours, students must demonstrate high academic achievement and an interest in pursuing a higher education.

For Salma Santiago, a junior at PSJA Early College High School, the trip was a life changing experience.

“I am so grateful to have been selected for this opportunity,” said Santiago who participated in the first tour to Harvard, MIT and Brown. “This program makes dreams come true. Not only did I visit my dream universities but also made friends that I would not have met otherwise.”
