ALAMO – PSJA Memorial Early College High School Senior Roxanna Sanchez has been awarded the competitive Haraldson Foundation Scholarship of up to $40,000 to fund her post-secondary education at the University of Texas at Austin for up to eight semesters.

The Haraldson Foundation encourages young adults to become the future leaders of the State of Texas by providing academic scholarships for study in Texas institutions of higher learning. Each year, Haraldson Foundation awards need-based scholarships to students who demonstrate leadership, excellence and community service.

To be considered for the highly competitive scholarship, Sanchez had to go through a rigorous interview process. She is humbled to have been selected as a recipient and credits her success to the support she has received from her family and PSJA.

"Without the constant care and attention from staff and teachers, I don't think I would have gotten this far," said the scholarship recipient. "One thing that I emphasized during my interview was the fact that I wanted to get educated to help my community advance. That's the mentality I have adopted from being a part of PSJA."

Sanchez will be graduating with an Associate Degree in Interdisciplinary Studies from South Texas College in May. Upon graduation, she plans to study Journalism and Radio at the University of Texas at Austin.

She is an All A-Honor Roll student, was named The Monitor Student of the Week, and is an All-State Journalism Staff member. In addition to those honors, Sanchez is an active member of the PSJA Memorial's Student Council, Yearbook, National Honor Society, The Memorialist Newspaper and even completed a summer internship with the Rio Grande Guardian Newspaper in 2016.
