The McAllen High Mariachi Oro earned a Division I Superior Rating and received Straight Ones from all three judges at the State UIL Mariachi Festival February 23-24.
In addition, Senior Alex Treviño earned a “UIL Outstanding Performer” (the state’s highest distinction) for the third consecutive year. Out of more than 70 high school groups that advanced to the state level, only 16 groups received a Division 1 Superior Rating. Only eight of those earned Straight Ones from all three judges. Additionally, out of more than 450 students that performed in UIL's Session Three, only six students received the Outstanding Performer Medal.
“The previous two years in a row, every single member had brought back ‘Outstanding Performer’ medals, but as things get tougher than ever, we are extremely honored and blessed to have had one of our students recognized at the highest level,” Mariachi Instructor Alex Trevino said. “We are very proud of each and every one of them for a spectacular, heartfelt, musical performance and for continuing to represent McAllen High and McAllen ISD.”
