Saturday, the sweet filling sandwiched in between Fri-YAY and “Sunday Funday”. Ideally, we'd love to sleep in and enjoy the serenity of our slumber. Alas, that is rarely, if ever, the case. Why does it seem that the older we get the more a Saturday goes from chillin’ to adulting, A.K.A. this is your day that you need to take care of your adult duties. Well, we can’t start our duties off with an empty stomach so we decided to meet up at Bread & Butter Café in Mid-town McAllen to pack in the fuel (and maybe some carbs but those are non-existent on weekends).

*Thursday night via messenger*

Trisha: Hola! We need to meet, doll.

Gaby: Yes! Dinner and Bohemian Rhapsody tomorrow?

Trisha: Can't. I have a birthday dinner to attend. Saturday?

Gaby: My Saturday is shot. But I can grab a quick breakfast meal.

Trisha: Dine and dash Saturday breakfast it is!

Fortunately, there wasn't too much back and forth while deciding on our particular breakfast destination. Bread and Butter Bakery Café, come on, the name alone is deliciously enticing!

As soon as we arrived, our eyes widened at the sight of the beautiful assortment of pastries in the glass display and the freshly baked bread sat on the shelves. Sweetness was in the air and hunger in our tummies.

Gaby: Can I have dessert for breakfast?

Trisha: Your wish is your command!

Gaby: Oooh, French Toast! That’s all I need!

Trisha: Are you kidding me? Cherrywood bacon, cream cheese bagel, smoked salmon? I want it all!

For the life of us, ultimately, we couldn't decide on just one. Thanks to the loyal, dining sidekick, we were able to try at least three different menu options. Of course, we had to indulge in the sugary goodness of French toast (served with Cherrywood bacon and fruit compote). Then we upped our protein and Omega 3 fatty acids intake (and carbs) with the Breakfast Sandwich (fried egg with Cherrywood smoked bacon on a bagel or croissant) and the smoked salmon (on a freshly baked, poppy seed bagel with herb cream cheese, capers and red onion). Not one of our taste buds was disappointed and, have no doubt about it, we'll be back to take on the rest of the menu items listed on that double blackboard.

Bread and Butter Bakery Café can be found nestled inside the small plaza located at 1126 Pecan Blvd., McAllen, TX. Stop in and order from their variety of delightful menu items during their regular hours of operation from Tuesday through Friday 7:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m. and Saturday from 9:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. The eatery is closed Sunday-Monday.
