Cristobal Ortiz, a student at McAllen ISD’s Achieve Early College High School, took second place at the Regional Citizen Bee, a statewide civics competition, on March 22.

He is the first McAllen ISD student to have placed at this event.

The written competition is composed of 65 questions from the following categories:

People and Documents

US Constitution

Landmark Supreme Court Cases and Civic Values and Skills

Current events

The oral rounds consist of questions on the same categories.

“This is a very challenging competition,” Clarissa Abbott, McAllen ISD’s Secondary Social Studies Coordinator, said.
