Week three is here and we’re still commemorating beer! Our National Beer Day, month-long celebration continues and so does our love for local grub and perfectly paired brews. “Where to now?” Well, we’re so glad you asked. *wink*

For those of us who may not have the spoils of having a backyard or you may have one but haven’t gotten to mowing the lawn, just imagine hanging out in a beautiful and spacious garden covered with string lights, surrounded by fRamily cheer and nature's gifts.

While this oasis sounds like something outside city limits, don’t fret. This depicted haven is located in the heart of McAllen off of the city’s main ventricle, 10th Street. Only on 10th Street would you be able to sip on a cold beer, while sitting outside on a picnic table, enjoying the warm breeze and sunshine on your cheeks as a giant Buddha from across the street smiles down on you and your friends. In this small fragment of time, you are at zen. (Fyi, the furniture store across the street has a giant golden Buddha sitting on display in the front lawn).

Brewsome is, “a place where art, science, and engineering combine to produce an awesome selection of handcrafted brews.” Beer is made in-house. Their current craft offerings are: Blonde Ale, Amber Ale, Brown Ale, Orange Pepper Saison, Mango Wheat, Apricot Lambic, Double IPA, Imperial Blackberry Nitro Ale, and Imperial Chocolate Coffee Stout. Not sure what exactly to order? No fear! For only $24, enjoy a massive beer flight to share with your crew (or just for you) and find out which beer is your favorite. There are quite a few stars in the menu, but one that truly stands out, because of its color and taste, is Brewsome’s Lime Gose. Pronounced “Goes-uh”, this baby marks in at 5.6% ABV and, with only 6.7 IBU (International Bitterness Unit), is one of the few white beers we have ever seen in our area. Yes, you read right, it’s White! Goses are sour German wheat beers, typically brewed with salt and coriander seeds.

Just in case beer is not your thing, although we can’t really imagine why it wouldn’t be, bottles of white and red wine, or the sweeter Moscato are also available for purchase. Make sure to check out their “PG-13” drinks of southern style craft sodas for the kiddos or anyone cutting out alcohol in their diet.

Like any good bar, Brewsome also offers up some great munchies that can feed a whole army. Our weapons of choice to start off the evening with were an order of the loaded beer fries (fries, beef patty, bacon, Brown Ale mushroom gravy and cheese), guacamole (guacamole, tortilla chips, chicharron, chipotle salsa, pico de gallo) and street corn (sweet corn, jalapeno crema, lime, cotija cheese, cilantro, Tajin).

Round 2 was filled with our party’s favorite, the chicken club sandwich, and of course, we had to order THE Brewsome Burger (double patty, double American cheese, lettuce, tomato, pickles, onions and french fries). For the healthy folks in your group, you can’t go wrong with an Ancient Grain Bowl (ancient grain blend, fresh vegetables, guacamole). We recommend topping it off with grilled salmon.

The food was absolutely delicious and beyond satisfying. We would have liked to seen a recommended beer pairing with each dish, as Brewsome states, “Our menu consists of a variety of classic dishes prepared with quality ingredients, and carefully selected to complement our awesome hand-crafted brews.” In all fairness, these guys are fairly new, so we’ll give them a pass and hope to see that on their menu soon, or at least have their servers suggest a pairing.

Brewsome also has a selection of brunch items on Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Feel free to bring your fur baby out for some brunch. Brewsome is pet friendly! Not feeling the Texas heat or there is an existenting chance of inclement weather? No worries, Brewsome also offers indoor seating.

Stop by Brewsome at 1303 North 10th Street, McAllen, TX 78501 during regular hours of operation: Monday through Thursday from 4:00 p.m.-12:00 p.m.; Friday 4:00 p.m.-2:00 a.m.; Saturday 12:00 p.m.-2:00 a.m. and Sunday from 10:00 a.m.-8:00 p.m. (Sunday Brunch menu is available 10:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m.) For additional information, visit their website at www.brewsomebrewery.com or follow them on Facebook and Instagram @brewsomebrewery.
