Ashley Doffing has been selected as the new varsity volleyball head coach at McAllen Memorial High, it was announced this week.

Doffing, a graduate and former volleyball player for McAllen Memorial, had previously served as a freshman volleyball coach at James “Nikki” Rowe High.

Former head coach Lorena Lopez coached her while she was a freshman and later varsity assistant coach in the Memorial volleyball program. Lopez stepped down to take over as Assistant Athletic Director for McAllen ISD after last season.

“I'm so excited to take on this new role,” Doffing said. “I graduated from McAllen Memorial and Lopez was my coach so this program is near and dear to my heart. I'm honored to carry on this tradition and proud to be a part of the McAllen Memorial Mustang team.”

Doffing, who has four years of coaching experience, graduated from the University of Texas-Pan American in 2010 with degrees in English and Political Science.
