The Edinburg Chamber of Commerce has chosen AARP as Business of the Month for the month of April. The AARP office has been operating in Hidalgo County for 30 years, and their ultimate goal is to assist individuals in finding subsidized employment. The AARP Foundation Workforce Development Program is one of approximately 99 offices across the country that falls under the umbrella of AARP that focuses on targeting individuals 55 and older who want to get back into the workforce. Many individuals face challenges when looking for employment, such as age discrimination, or have monetary, social, and psychological restrictions. AARP Foundation Workforce Development works very closely with the Workforce Solutions of Hidalgo where they refer individuals to the program.

The AARP Foundation Workforce Development Program has many community partners, including the City of Edinburg, City of Mission, Salvation Army, Goodwill Stores, Catholic Charities, just to mention a few. From clerical, ambassador and unskilled positions, each individual is able to enhance their job skills while they earn money and continue looking for work. This past year, the AARP Foundation Workforce Development Office in Hidalgo was among the top offices across the country in helping individuals find employment and was recognized at our yearly conference held in Houston, Texas. All offices are operated by a Project Director and staff that assist in the operations of the office are program participants themselves that are looking for a job. Congratulations, AARP, for receiving Business of the Month.
