Creating native plant gardens is topic of local Texas Master Naturalist chapter’s May meeting

The South Texas Border Chapter of Texas Master Naturalist’s May 20 meeting will be about creating native plant gardens in any space.

Guest speaker Juan Sebastian Chavez will talk about the importance, benefit and process of creating native plant gardens. Originally from Columbia, South America, Chavez graduated from University of Texas Rio Grande Valley with Bachelor of Science degrees in biology, and clinical laboratory science. He currently works as a medical laboratory scientist in an Edinburg emergency room.

Chavez is a wildlife enthusiast. With his knowledge of plant, bird and butterfly species in the Rio Grande Valley, he pursues his interests in nature photography, citizen scientist programs and as a local nature tour guide.

Chavez’ presentation begins at 6:30 p.m. The public is invited, free, to the 6 p.m. social and general meeting after the presentation.
