The Edinburg Rotary Club will have as guest speaker Chief Rodolfo Karisch on July 25, 2019 at the Echo Hotel & Conference Center at 12 noon. His presentation will address:
CBP continues shifting large portions of personnel and resources away from our border security mission – to address large groups, family units and unaccompanied children – which is significantly increasing the risk to our national security.
As we have stated on multiple occasions, the current situation is unsustainable for Border Patrol operations and is threatening national security. The resources devoted to the care and processing of these individuals impacts our ability to carry out our law enforcement mission.
We continuously dedicate 40% to 60% of our manpower solely to caring for, feeding, processing and providing hospital watch for our detainees.
We know drug trafficking organizations are using our diminished operational deployment and large groups as a diversion to enable the cross border movement of illicit narcotics.
CBP is always evaluating whether other tools, such as DNA testing, can further enhance efforts to protect children.
Rio Grande Valley Sector (RGV) has apprehended over 284,000 illegal aliens FYTD 2019.
Over half are family units and unaccompanied children from countries other than Mexico, creating a placement issue for DHS and creating overcrowding issues at CBP holding facilities.
